P15M site dev't fund for San Isidro relocation site already available
The National Housing Authority (NHA) has signified the availability of P15 million for the site development of the 16.2 hectares relocation site in San Isidro, Jaro.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said he was informed by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) about the availability of the funds. The P15 million is different from the P35 million provided by the Housing Urban and Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) for the construction of 500 housing units.
The P15 million is intended for the site development which includes the construction of macadam road and drainage system. While, the P35 million from the HUDCC is for the construction of the housing units. The DSWD is the implementing agency while the Habitat for Humanity will undertake the construction of the housing units.
The San Isidro relocation site is intended for the families particularly in Jaro district whose houses were destroyed by Typhoon Frank. It is the only relocation site of the city where everything is being prepared before the transfer of the qualified recipients. The relocation site can accommodate some 2,000 housing units.
The city government built transit houses including the communal facilities such as common kitchen, toilet and bath for the first batch of the recipients. Initially, 54 families already occupied the transit houses. Those who were placed in the priority list are families who are staying at the Jaro gymnasium after the June 21 flood brought by the typhoon.
The recipient families stay at the transit houses while the housing units are being constructed.
Meanwhile, the mayor is hopeful that the Sangguniang Panlungsod will pass a resolution this Wednesday's regular session granting him authority to sign the memorandum of agreement between the DSWD and Habitat for Humanity for the construction of 500 houses. The Habitat for Humanity wants to start the project as soon as possible.
